Commissioner FAQ:
Can You Tell the County Engineer to Pave My Road?

The short answer is no.

To go a bit more in depth, let me answer this question by addressing both township roads and county roads. The County Engineer is an elected official overseeing county roads. The Township Trustees are elected officials overseeing their township roads.

Perry County Commissioners have no authority over the County Engineer or Township Trustees. We can’t direct them in their efforts to manage county or township roads. It is their responsibility to execute to the best of their ability given the resources at hand.

If anyone calls our office complaining about the County Engineer or Township Trustees, my first question will be whether the caller has contacted the County Engineer or Trustee to talk with them first. I am always happy to advocate on our county residents’ behalf but Commissioners have no authority to direct the engineer or a trustee. Those are all road management decisions that lie with those elected officials.
